Jacob (“Jake”) O’Brien graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and, later, from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, summa cum laude. After passing the bar exam and being sworn in as an Indiana attorney admitted to practice in both the Northern and Southern District Courts in Indiana, Jake returned to his childhood hometown of Logansport to begin his law career at Starr Austen & Miller, LLP.
As an associate at Starr Austen & Miller, Jake represented plaintiffs and defendants in both state and federal court in a vast array of civil litigation contexts, from personal injury, to complex commercial and contractual disputes, to class actions and from pre-suit investigation through trial. Now a partner at the firm, Jake continues to concentrate his practice on litigating a wide variety of complex civil lawsuits on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.
Jake previously served as president of the Cass County (Indiana) Bar Association, and is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He also previously served as a Board member of the United Way of Cass County.
Jake and his wife, Ingrid, live in Logansport with their two sons and daughter.
Professor Jordan B. Peterson said that “proper being is a process not a state; a journey not a destination. It’s the continual transformation of what you know, through encounter with what you don’t…” Good lawyers apply the knowledge they have to assist their clients. Better lawyers do this, but also relish every case and client as an opportunity to expand their knowledge and grow in the practice of law. Every day, I strive to be a better lawyer.
